This weekend, Students for Peace and Justice and Students for Social Work are leading a Homelessness Simulation. ~20 students will experience "living homeless" for a couple of days. Friday they'll try to navigate the aid system, collecting food, blankets, filling out forms, etc. We'll be sleeping outside at the Rock Friday night, no matter the weather. Saturday will be spent in service and community engagement.
We're sending a big group to Haven House on Saturday to play with the kids for a few hours and have lunch together. Any ideas on cheap, easy crafts/edible activities?

Rice Krispy treat bird nests--you make the stuff, everyone forms their own nest, put in jelly beans. Voila! If you feel ritzy (which I assume you won't) you can dye coconut green for grass, too.
I Spy is fun, and free!! Also good for children!

Does the Rice Krispie stuff need to be freshly made/warm to be easily moldable?
re Krispy treats - YES!!! That stuff gets firm rather promptly it when cools.
I am sure you could find a peanut butter play dough recipe on line, but given the sad state of peanut butter allergies around, maybe not such a great idea.
Gum drops can be added to lots of things ( with toothpicks) - marshmallows, oranges, apples... to create works of edible art.
Simon Says; Duck, Duck, Goose; with children sitting in a circle, clap out some simple rhythms and have them imitate; "Everybody Do This" also while seated (or standing) in a circle, chant out "EBDT; Do this, Do this, Do this, EbDT just like me!" and perform a simple movement for them to imitate.
Aren't you glad you asked?!
Oh, that was me. Of course!

That's the problem with the krispies...I don't think we'll have heat. : (
I did find peanut butter play dough, which I'm tempted to try. We'll take it and ask, perhaps.
Thank you, ladies. : )
