St. Augustine

Was quite a jerk for the most part, by the way. I've been reading sermons and "The City of God" for my research job, and he just doesn't say some nice things. Though he is a remarkable feminist for his time. Every once in a while, that is.

Whoa!
Many older adults think that many kids are jerks because they don't understand their culture and language.
He may have been a pretty cool guy. (He may also have been a jerk - never met him :-) ).

He believed that scaring people into believing was a good tactic! He claimed that men terrified by damnation would hold onto it long enough to actually fall in love with God, so it worked and was a moral thing to do. That's the jerk part.
