Hmm--I actually prefer the first, although I know it's not as well structured from a composition standpoint. I like that it's more distant and makes the person looks smaller against the majesty of Sinai.
Yes...had I actually thought about art while taking the photo, I would have him in a corner with more Sinai. But I was pretty much just pointing and clicking...

I also prefer # 1. Number 2 looks like the person is on a fairly flat surface. Uncle Al
